Story: A real-life story about an unusual tale of love and friendship in Nazi Germany on the eve of the '36 Olympics. Germany's champion high-jumper Gretel Bergmann has the Olympic gold medal in her sights. Only problem is, Gretel is Jewish. The Nazi government is using sport as part of its drive to strengthen the 'Aryan race' in preparing German youth for war, and therefore the Reich Sports Office insist that Gretel, being a Jew, cannot be allowed to qualify. However, at the same time they must avoid a boycott of the Olympics by the Americans. Their plan? To cook up a secret scheme that will pit intersex athlete 'Marie' Kettler against Gretel to make the German team.
